FAR’s medical mission is moving ahead.As you know, I chair a committee of private Israeli and Palestinian doctors known as the
Steering Committee on Health who are cooperating to improve the health and well being
of the Palestinian population.
The latest report from the senior Israeli and Palestinian doctors follows:
Our aim is to develop a program which will include the establishment of trauma centers in
Judea and Samaria. Initially, we would have to identify the needs such as what emergency
rooms are available, if they exist at all, equipment, the standard of physicians and the
training that will be needed to qualify them in the fields of surgery, neurosurgery,
orthopedics, nursing staff, etc.
It is suggested that a seminar will be held to discuss the concept of trauma and what
measures must be taken for its continuation. We are now working on the seminar program.
The Committee should now be registered which will involve legal fees and adding these
to the startup costs of maintaining the momentum of the committee requires a $300,000
budget for operating costs for a year.
The above is separate from the medicines and medical equipment. Once the start-up costs
become available, the Steering Committee on Health will approach donors and manufacturers
to obtain funding for the needed medicines and equipment.
It has been suggested that we bring a team of the Palestinian and Israeli doctors for a visit
to the United States, so they can explain the technical and health needs and their efforts to
solve them. This would be a wonderful demonstration of how good can be done if both
sides cooperate and work together, thereby demonstrating how it is possible for Palestinian
and Israelis to achieve a mutual goal and trust each other. The travel expense budget
requires $45,000.

go down a constructive road towards peace, security, a decent education, and a good
standard of living.
